| Hi, |
The common yarrow plant/weed/wild flower/herb
is also known as Bloodwort, Milfoil, Soldier's Woundwort,
Thousand Weed, Carpenter's Weed, Devil's Nettle
and more. Its Latin name Achillea millefolium is
based on the ancient Greek hero Achilles who used
yarrow to treat the wounds of his men. Different
concoctions of yarrow have been applied to cuts
for centuries and yarrow has been used to cure almost
any ailment from headaches to hemorrhoids.
Yarrow leaves have served as vegetables as well
as in beer production before being replace by hops.
The Chinese have used the stalks to cast a random
pattern to reference the oracles of the I Ching.
This randomizing inspired the name of the Yarrow
algorithm which generates random code in many computers.
Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary wrote the famous
song, "Puff the Magic Dragon" proving
that there's a treasure of magical info in common
objects.
